Jane Sibbett took the role of Carol in FRIENDS just two days after giving birth

Many people face struggle during their work. But Jane Sibbett had some different and difficult struggles. She worked even after pushing a whole human out. Carol of the famous sitcom FRIENDS reveals that she took the role of Carol just two days after she gave birth to her child.

During her visit to Comedy Central’s FriendsFest with Jessica Hecht, aka Susan Bunch, the 54-year-old said: ‘I had originally auditioned for the first cast, the main cast, and I asked my agents if the producers knew that I was pregnant. They were like “No no no, we’re not gonna tell them that”. ‘[I said] “Ask them if I can play the pregnant lesbian” because they wanted me to be part of it. And they said the timing wouldn’t work out well.’

The producers of the show hired Anita Barone for the role of Carol. She appeared in episode two of the show. However, to find better opportunities in the movies, Barone left the show.

The day after Jane gave birth of her second child Kai, she got a call from the producers of the show.

She said ‘Somehow it didn’t quite work out with the first Carol, and I got a phone call the day that I came home from the hospital after delivering my son after a 24-hour labour. They said “Can you come work tomorrow”, and I was like “I’m kinda sore, I don’t think I can make it.” They said they’d make it work out, it would only be for two episodes. ‘They said they’d send me the pilot. I looked at the pilot, I saw David Schwimmer, I saw the most amazing, longest take ever and I thought, I have to work with this man. He was so brilliant, and the script was amazing.  So I thought, two episodes I can live with. But look, I got her [Jessica], my wife. It was glorious.’

It wasn’t Carol only who may be regretting her decision. In an interview, Jessica Hecht told us about friends. She says ‘I know quite a famous New York actor, and back then people would have development deals, they would find an episode or a series for you to do.  They’d say, “we’re developing these shows and we’ll send you scripts and you decide which one you want to do”.

She continued ‘This actor was sent many scripts, including the script for Friends, and another script called Best Friends. ‘And he thought, “well, the choice is obvious. It would be much more intimate to do a show where you’re best friends.” So that’s the show he chose.
